Create a tab-delimited data feed file in 4 steps

If you’ve never created a tab-delimited file before, it’s pretty simple. I recommend using some sort of spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel or if you need a free option check out Open Office.

Step-by-step
1. Open Excel or other program and create a new spreadsheet.

2. The first row in the document should contain header attributes. (Check with each shopping engine to get a list of required fields)

3. Enter data for each of the products that you wish to submit.

4. Save the spreadsheet as tab-delimited text (.txt). To do this choose Save as and then choose the appropriate file type.

Your feed is ready to submit.

If you open your feed file after you save it, by default it will probably open with notepad since you saved it as a .txt file. Do worry if the data looks like it all mixed together. Notepad doesn’t show columns and therefore the text appears to be out of order.  Here what it may look like:

Just right click on the file and choose open with.  Then select your spreadsheet program.  The file should look fine again.  If you have any problems just post your questions in the comments.
